Another local group III Kings make sure the Solomon Islands scoop the only two New Caledonian awards for the Pacific by winning the best pacific reggae band of the year.
The awards were handed over to members of the two bands on Wednesday night at the Red Mansion by Mangrove studio owner Allan Lanconte.
Mr Lanconte who worked with Solomon Islands renowned musicians for the past 15 years helped promote Solomon Islands music in New Caledonia.
DMP came out winners with their album title “Projectile” from about 50 entries.
New Caledonia normally gives away 11 awards to their music bands every year, two of which were normally reserved for Pacific bands.
The two are best pacific album and best pacific reggae. Last year, Naio of Vanuatu won the best reggae award after scooping it the previous year while Black Roses of Fiji won the best Pacific album award.
The two Solomon Islands bands scooped the two awards and were delivered with words of encouragement.
Mr Lanconte during the presentation said Solomon Islands music has steadily improve over the years.
“These bands are very famous back in New Caledonia,” he said.
He said Solomon Islands music is different and people can tell when they hear songs.
Mr Lanconte had been helping many Solomon Islands musicians in the past and also gave recording opportunities to most of these bands.
Mangrove has a bag of success stories with hits from artists like Apprentice and Sharzy from the Solomon Islands, Vanessa Quai from Vanuatu, Mexem from New Caledonia and Justin Wellington from New Zealand.
