Deanna farewelled
SOLO Icons this week farewelled Deanna Easton, who’ll be leaving the country today back to Australia.

2007 Solo Icon winner Faye Indu, speaking on behalf of the Icons, thanked Ms Easton for her work with all the Solo Icon contestants.

“We would like to thank Deanna especially for organising Australian Producer Kelvin Fahey, the President of Hardrush Music, to provide voice and media coaching to Solo Icon finalist,” Miss Indu said.

Ms Easton, who had worked at the Australian High Commission, said the youth of Solomon Islands, especially those involved in Solo Icon, continue to inspire her.

“It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with Global Youth Leadership Nexus and the Ministry of Women, Youth and Children,” Ms Easton said.

“These young people have so much enthusiasm, initiative and talent.”

Ms Easton was primarily responsible for trade and economic policy, which includes assisting Australian companies that are interested in investing/expanding business in Solomon Islands, such as Gold Ridge Mining Ltd.

She also worked with the Solomon Islands private sector to encourage development, trade facilitation and management of quarantine issues and working with other donors on positive sustainable economic development policies.

Ms Easton also runs public diplomacy programs, which includes Australian funding for sport under the Australian Sports Outreach Program, support for International Women's Day, Clean up the World in Honiara, Harmony Day, Reconciliation Week Celebrations and support for Solo Icon.

Despite her busy schedule, Ms Easton also spent six months with the popular CHR radio station Paoa FM on “D World”.
