After successful completion of this year’s program, organiser’s of Solo Icon namely Global Youth Leadership Nexus (GYLN) and Ministry of Women Youth and Children Affairs (MWYCA) embarked on an empowerment program to equip children and youths in the provinces with tips in singing and performing skills.
A singing training model has been put together by this year’s contestant which includes skills like stretching, voice warm up, scaling, power voice exercise, use of microphone, creating rapport with the crowd, stage performance, and character and potential development.
Solo Icon coordinator Charles Ratu said each training, climaxed with Solo Icon performing to children and youths which they really enjoyed.
He said in Guadalcanal, training has been conducted in Mbalasuna which rally together about more than 40 youths from Guadalcanal plain.
In Malaita training has been conducted at Auki Community High School, Alotau School, Aligegeo High School, Aimela School and Kilusakwalo High school.
“More than four hundred students took part in the program. Similar training will be done at Isabel and Western Province,” Mr Ratu said.
“Amazing and extravagant results has been achieved with children and youths all eagerly enquiring for support and back up resources to aid their singing skills.
“GYLN and MWYCA are facilitating a package to be sent to each school that has been visited.”
Mr Ratu and his colleague Shelton Pio said singing as an art certainly needs to be integrated in our school curriculum and that the visit in the province is a good pace setter for 2011 competition.
