Ngela language bible stored in parliament

NGELA New Testament Bible is among 21 bibles currently stored in a glass container in the National Parliament.

This came after Solomon Islands Translation Advisory Group (SITAG) and Bible Translation and Literacy Partnership of Solomon Islands (BTLPSI) handed it to Speaker, Ajilon Nasui, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, Minister of Home Affairs, Manasseh Maelanga and MP for Gela constituency, Bartholomew Parapolo in Parliament yesterday.

MP Parapolo said it’s a historic event for his constituency and ahonour and privilege to place the Bible.

He said Church of Melanesia in Gela don’t have funds to translate the Bible in the Gela language.

However, he was happy to see the arrangement through SITAGto support work of church in Gela.

Harper Kuali of BTLPSI said the translated bible will help the people in Gela understand the word of God clearly because of high illiteracy rate in the constituency.

He said even youths and children will understand the message very clearly.

Home Affairs Minister, Maelanga offered $250,000 to SITAG to support bible translation in the country.

He said the government will want to see more bible translated to languages in the country.

The small event was attended by members of SITAC, BTLPSI and some MPS.

There are currently about 80 languages in the country.
