Channel assists Avila community

AVILA South Seas Evangelical Church in Central Guadalcanal on Sunday received a $10,000 Christmas present from their Member of Parliament Peter Channel.

Mr Channel handed the money to the church pastor Titus Mickley during a ceremony to mark the church’s sixth anniversary on Christmas Day.

According to Mr Channel the donation was part of his support towards the church and community’s future development programmes.

“My family and I are very happy spending Christmas in this community today,” the MP said on Sunday.

Avila Community expressed its need for a community hall and improved water and sanitation facilities.

Mr Channel assured the community during the celebrations that he will be assisting Avila towards this planned projects.

Apart from Mr Channel’s donation, another community supporter George Teke also gave $4000 to Avila Community as part of his family contribution.

Pastor Mickley thanked Mr Channel and Mr Teke for their donations.

He said these gifts will help sustain future programmes of the church and the community.

“This support is a big relief for the community.

“We will use the money for the church or community development activities,” Pastor Mickley said.
