Malaita villagers attend ‘Know Your Bible’ study

SEVENRAL villages in Malaita have recently been blessed when “Know Your Bible” (KYB) workshops were held there.

Machi Rietveld, from SWIM, is a trainer for these workshops and she spent two weeks in Malaita running workshops to train people to be KYB leaders in their own community.

The first workshop was held in Samaria in West Kwaio.

This village is a community of ‘new souls’ and many people from neighbouring villages also attended.

About 70 people attended the workshop, and included Anglican, SDA, Assembly of God, SSEC, United Church and Catholic.

Mrs Rietveld was assisted in leading the workshop by Conrad and Doreen Manfort who have been involved with KYB for several years already.

KYB was introduced to Solomon Islands over 10 years ago, and it is a study programme written for women by women and it focuses on just plain Bible study.

It is non denominational, and work is being undertaken to translate some of the lessons into pijin.

The studies on the Book of Ruth have already been translated and are now being used.

A number of the studies are also in an ‘easy English’ version for people whose first language is not English.

The second workshop was held in Fulikaomae, near Auki, and was attended by a similar number of people, from about 25 different SSEC villages in the West Kwara’ae district.

Unity Kuba assisted Mrs Rietveld in leading this workshop.

There are now quite a few KYB groups established all over the country, and women (and some men too) are being blessed as they study God’s word together.
