TEN mattresses for both electrical and manual beds and other surgical items were delivered to the surgical ward at the National Referral Hospital last week.

The assistance was made possible through a partnership between the Ministry of Health, ADRA Solomon and the Solomon Island Mission (SIM) of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church health department.

Associate Health Director of the SDA Church, Pastor George Vann and ADRA Adopt-A-Clinic Program Coordinator, Henry Kana handed over the items.

According to Pr Vann, the equipment were supplied under the Adopt-A-Clinic Program (AACP).

He explained that the program was initiated by the South Pacific Division (SPD) headquarters of the SDA Church in Australia to equip, renovate and upgrade SDA Clinics and hospitals in the Pacific Island field which especially includes Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.

"The idea is to get the SDA Churches in Australia and New Zealand to adopt a clinic in any of these island countries and to establish ongoing adoption relations.

"Hence, the arrangement had seen almost all Solomon Islands’ 21 SDA clinics been adopted and has since been upgraded and equipped with outboard motors and canoes, clinical equipment, maintenance of clinic buildings and so forth," he said.

The Consultant Surgeon, Dr Dudley Baerodo said that the Central Hospital is in dire need of proper hospital beds at this time and that the delivery of beds and mattresses is very timely.

He expressed appreciation on behalf of the hospital management to the ADRA Director Barry Chapman, Solomon Island Mission President Pr Andrew Kingston and the South Pacific Division Associate Health Director, Dr Chester Kuma for facilitating the donation.
