There were 11 new rooms that made up the new wing. Eight of the new rooms were self-contained.
Chester Diocese in England funded the extension at a cost of about $2 million.
The diocese had a relation with the Brotherhood established 20 years ago.
The Brotherhood uses proceeds from their rest-house, built and completed in 1998, to support its missions throughout the country.
Construction of the new wing started August last year.
Chester Diocese bishop Rev. Peter Foster came all the way to open the new wing.
“We were grateful to assist the Melanesian Brotherhood in their ministry and this is not the first time we do this,” Rev Foster said yesterday.
“There is an expansion in the ministry and we see their need in terms of financial assistance so we funded the new wing.
“We also sponsored members of the brotherhood to do further studies in England.’’
Secretary of Melanesian brotherhood Alphons Garimae thanked Chester Diocese for its help.
He said without their help, the Melanesian Brotherhood would not be able to carry out their ministry effectively.
Mr Garimae extended his appreciation to the Church of Melanesian Board of Trust for allowing the land to extend the rest-house.
Final touches will be made to the rooms before they can be ready for occupation.
