These were the words of Pr Martin Losi, a senior Pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church when speaking the Home Coming day program host at the New Tenabuti Church in North East Guadalcanal over the weekend.
The program brought together a wide range of young Adventist youths who have gone out of the Church for many years-to worship and fellowship with existing members of the Church.
Pr Losi led a delegation from Honiara, consisting of two singing groups and other Church elders to officiate at the program.
He said as God’s people, the church needs to look at avenues that can attract young people back to the Church, adding that such programs is the way forward for winning back souls into the Church.
He said the Church need to show love, remorse, kindness, joy whenever a backsliding youth comes back to Church.
This he said will show the youths that the Church welcomes and embraces them.
In his sermon, he quoted characters and stories from the bible that related with young people moving out of the Church for their own pleasure and then finding it difficult to come back in, because the Church sometimes condemns them instead of welcoming and embracing them back in.
A youth who attended the program said that it is common practice that whenever young people go out of Church, they are scared of coming back in as Church members have the tendency to gossip or talk about them.
Some he said won’t even welcome them to Church.
“It is because of this that many young people who are often regarded as backsliders don’t feel welcomed when coming to Church,” he said.
He said that he was happy the program was inspiring and that Pr Losi’s sermon on coming back home to the Church was a blessing to them.
The home coming program ended with a feast for all the young people who were present.
