NCW spokesperson told the Solomon Star that such incidents after the successfully held 16-day activism on violence against women, has brought more concern on how women and girls are treated by their spouses and partners.
“We condemn the attack on the girl by her boyfriend, such should never have happened especially since they are only dating and not yet married.”
The girl was struck with a wheel spanner by her boyfriend after a brief argument at the back of the Point Cruz Hot Bread Kitchen.
The victim told Solomon Star that she was only dating the boy who was angry at her for not going back to him at Visale over the weekend.
Despite suffering from a deep cute on her head, she was released from the National Referral Hospital after receiving medical attention.
NCW spokesperson said that such actions and treatment are of great concern to them.
“We are indeed concerned at such attitudes men have against their spouses and partners in reacting as such, and therefore hurting their partners,” she said.
She reiterated that domestic violence is no longer a private matter but rather every bodys`.
“Violence is not a private matter; it is something everybody talks about as seen in the incident on Tuesday.
“Everyone should contribute in serving the needs of women in our societies especially when they are faced with violence,” she said.
She encouraged young girls and women not to be afraid but speak up if they fall victims of violence to their spouses and partners.
“Those of you who are faced with violence repeatedly need to come out and report to the police or many other organisations that can help such as the Family Support Center and many others.”
She said that sometimes the cultural norms are the factors preventing women from coming out and talking about them being victims of violence, however encouraged them not to be scared when they are faced with violence.
