The Guadalcanal women
policy is in its draft stage and will soon be finalised.
This was revealed to the Solomon Star by Guadalcanal Women
Development Officer Hellen Joy Alfred.
The Guadalcanal women in late September had taken the first step
of discussing to formulate their policy.
The policy is aimed at giving better understanding on how gender needs and issues can be
captured and formulated into a policy where it can be used to guide programs
and activities for women in Guadalcanal Province.
Mrs Alfred
said that currently they are working on the first draft.
“We will
soon finalise that.”
She said
once the policy is finalised, a meeting will be arranged for all members to
look into the issue and discuss what will be done next.
Guadalcanal
Provincial Minister for women, youth, children and family affairs Eilleen
Sulukoni during the first forum to discuss the policy said she supported the
idea because once it is formulated and implemented, it will address the issues
and concerns of girls and women of Guadalcanal to become equal and active
partners, not only in the development of Guadalcanal but in the country as a
whole.
The completion of Guadalcanal Women Policy will make the province the first to have a women’s policy.
