The Solomon Islands women in business association
(SIWIBA) members have been reminded to have confidence in themselves and have
clear goals inorder to be successful in their business.
The words of encouragement came from Emele Duituturaga, RAMSI gender advisor during the monthly meeting organized by the association members on Friday, 5th October.
Ms Duituturaga spoke to SIWIBA members about her consultant role to the ministry of women, youth and children’s affairs in creating the gender equality policy with key areas of work including education and health, economic empowerment of women, and women in decision making and leadership.
She encouraged SIWIBA members to speak with their government officials about upholding its commitment to gender equality as agreed with the Rarotonga Declaration on Gender.
Ms Duituturaga continued to encourage SIWIBA members by sharing her
experience as a business woman through her work as a consultant and stressed
that it is vital for women to be self-confident in order to be successful in
business.
She encouraged women to have written goals and to use them as a tool
for organising and planning not only their business activities but family
activities and personal goals.
Every month SIWIBA members come together to share their experiences, discuss their ideas and to learn about upcoming events and activities offered by SIWIBA.
These meetings offer an opportunity for businesswomen to network, collaborate and find peer support. The SIWIBA membership is made up of business women in both the formal and informal business sector. For more information contact the SIWIBA office on 28386.
Meanwhile the women association would like to extend a big thank you to Ms Duituturaga, for her sponsorship and presentation at the meeting.
