Women candidates workshop
SIX women candidates yesterday attended a second workshop organised by the Women in Shared Decision Making (WISDM) to help them prepare for the August 4 elections.

WISDM member Josephine Teakeni, who is also Director of Vois Blo Mere, said the workshop is to help women candidates have the required skills to be able to go about their manifestos during their campaign.

She said the workshop is also to help the women candidates look at issues of gender so that when they talk about issues they know what they are talking about.

“WISDM understands that preparing the women candidates will also help them when they meet the media,” Ms Teakeni said.

Marovo constituency candidate Hellen Saera Hilli said the one day training had helped for the journey ahead.

She said what she really like about the workshop was when people who attended the workshop made critics about their short presentations on what they will do if they come in power.

Mrs Hilli also said if she gets a seat in Parliament she will address outstanding issues in Marovo which were neglected for a very long time.

Cathrine Pule, candidate for Gela Constituency, said it’s about time women are elected into Parliament because since Independence little had been done by the Members of Parliament for women and youth.

“If a woman is in Parliament she will understand the issues of youths and women of this country because women are the ones who can make sacrifices,” she said.

She mentioned too that problems are happening because of our own failures.

WISDM training was facilitated by Vois Blo Mere and Women in Leadership Desk of the National Council of Women.

As part of the workshop candidates talk about their manifestos and also a mock press conference was held.
