International artist SHAGGY is heading here next month, much to the excitement of his local fans.

The Heritage Park Hotel has officially announced on Friday, that  they were bringing in the Jamaican-American reggae-pop and rapper singer to Honiara.

Shaggy, whose real name was Orville Richard Burrell, was born on 22 October 1968. He was better known by his stage name Shaggy.

The reggae-dancehall artiste is known for his hit singles ‘Boombastic’, It Wasn’t Me’ and Angel.

He was said to have taken his stage name from his shaggy hair.

Shaggy’s upcoming tour follows Julian Marley’s concert in Honiara last Wednesday.

Marley, son of legendary reggae start Bob Marley, put on a three hour concert at Panatina’s festival village.

Despite disturbances by youths who tried to force their way in for free, Julian was able to complete the concert for those who paid $150 tickets to get in and watch the show.

Shaggy is expected to stage his show at the car park of Heritage Park Hotel.

The hotel in a statement said it is working together with Solbrew, one of the major sponsors of this hot event, to make it happen.

“Without the time and efforts of both teams, this event wouldn’t have been possible,” the hotel said.

“All the hard work and efforts go in to make this event a show stopping experience this town has ever seen,” the statement added.

“Fans in Honiara will have the opportunity to see Shaggy live in concert for 1 night only.

“Three lucky fans will also get the opportunity to meet Shaggy backstage with their very own photo.”

Shaggy will perform on Sunday, February 2 starting at 6pm. Tickets will be available next week at Heritage Park Hotel.

Gates open at 3pm; guests will enjoy some local entertainment.

Free BBQ will also be available for all attending. 10 Lucky winners will have the chance to grab themselves free tickets through upcoming promotions so listen out for your chance to win tickets to watch the show.

Last Saturday, Shaggy and Friends concert raised funds for the Bustamante Children’s Hospital in Jamaica, the only children’s hospital in the English-speaking Caribbean featuring international artists like Neyo.

A Grammy Award winner, businessman and philanthropist, Shaggy had won a Grammy Award in 1996 for Best Reggae Album for his sophomore album ‘Boombastic’ which was released in 1995.

He exploded on the music scene in 1993 with his debut album “Pure Pleasure” and followed it with “Bombastic” in 1995.

“Bombastic” went certified Platinum, won a Grammy Award in 1996 for Best Reggae Album and topped an impressive chart list that included the Top 40 Rhythmic charts, Hot 100 and Billboard 200.”

Shaggy would be the latest internationally famed musician to perform here.

In 2012, international musician Gramps Morgan also staged a concert at the Heritage Park Hotel.
