Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia the most Reverend David Vunagi encourages all mothers’ union members in the country to run literacy programs in their communities.

When he officially opened the Mothers Union 13th general meeting on Monday in Honiara, Mr Vunagi told the women who came from various provinces representing various mothers’ union groups, that it would be a good cause to run literacy programs for other women in communities.

“Since literacy comes under the mothers’ union plans in every parishes, it would be good to start actively pursuing the programs.

“I know many of you are busy with many good things like floral arrangements, dying lava-lava, cooking and catering. It is good that you involve in those things but it is equally important as well that you have time to run literacy programs in your parishes.”

He said literacy programs in communities areas not going the way they should have been but it is time we start to actively venture into this area.

He appealed to provincial and diocesan coordinators of the literacy programs to be more articulate and robust in facilitating this program in the communities.

As parenting program is recognised the arch, Bishop requests the provincial and diocesan office to also support the literacy program with funding.
