15 April 2014

Church tourism has a big potential for Solomon Islands says chief executive officer (CEO) of Solomon Island Visitors Bureau (SIVB) Josefa Tuamoto.

He was speaking during Palm Sunday at Tasia Anglican Wandraltol College in Isabel.

Minister of culture and tourism Samuel Manetoali, Mr Tuamoto and members of their delegation were invited for the church service.

Speaking at the occasion he highlighted that Church tourism is one of the biggest markets around the world today.

“I’m impress with this school and geographical setting which is ideal for tourism development.

“But since you have a church and school established here its better that you promote church tourism,” Mr Tuamoto said.

He explained that churches can organise special events like Easter and any other church special event that could attract visitors from overseas.

“Church is a big contributor to tourism where large numbers of people travel to participate in church events.

“You can organise a church event and people from other islands and around the world can come,” Mr Tuamoto told students and staff.

He thanked the college for their warm and kind reception during the celebration of Palm Sunday.

Meanwhile the college principal told delegation that the school will build some more accommodation to cater for people visiting the school for some of their organised programs.
