23 June 2014

Women of Gizo and surrounding communities in the Western prpvince will benefit from a Revolving Fund that was officially launched in Gizo last week.

Director of WWF Australia made the announcement last Friday during the launching celebration of the Women Saving Club.

Seven zones of women within Gizo Environment Livelihood Conservation Association (GELCA) and Nusatuva Environment Conservation and Development Association (NECDA) will benefit from this newly established fund.

Director of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Australia Ghislaine (Gilly) Llewellyn when making the announcement last week said this revolving loan fund will be provided by John West Australia.

Ms Llewellyn said this country has a bountiful of resources and there are many business opportunities out there that can be tapped.

“Therefore this loan fund will assist members with their initial income generating activities,” Ms Llewellyn said.

She stressed that although the criteria and process of accessing this micro-loan is yet to be finalised, it should be made simple and easy to access by women.

However she said when these are finalised it will allow women to loan against the amount of their savings to do whatever income generating business or economic activities.

Ms Llewellyn said this micro loan should act as a push for women in their strive for economic empowerment.
