THE Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) will launch the National Strategy on the Economic Empowerment of Women and Girls today in Honiara.

The event will take place at the former CYP centre, lower Panatina campus.

The Women’s Economic Empowerment Strategy is aimed at addressing the challenges women face in accessing economic and development opportunities.

It was understood the event will be a milestone in the advancement of women’s development in enterprise and the economic sector.

Australian High Commissioner Andrew Byrne will deliver the key address during the event.

“This National Strategy on the Economic Empowerment of Women and Girls is a national framework developed to guide government’s focus on the economic empowerment of women and girls,” a statement from the ministry said.

“The strategy is also linked to Outcome 2 of the MWYCFA’s Gender Equality and Women’s Development (GEWD) Policy which is to “Improve the Economic Status of Women,” it added.

The statement said the event is closely aligned to the Democratic Coalition for Change Government’s reform agenda to “develop, promote and facilitate socio-economic development programmes that addresses the specific needs of women, youth and children.

“It is hoped that through the use and implementation of this strategy, the government will be able to support women to create more wealth from the resources they have around them so women can look after their families and communities much better and bring much development to their communities and our nation as a whole,” the statement added.
