Beauty contestants voice against violence

Miss Solomon Islands Beauty Pageants have raised their voice to stop domestic violence against women and children.

They raised their voice after visiting the victims of domestic violence at the Christian Care Centre at Tenaru yesterday.

The beauty pageants said, it was sad thing for them to see women and children having gone through hard life as the result of domestic violence.

“It was sad thing for us to see women seeking protection and better life at the centre caused by domestic violence,” Miss Red Manson Lovida Reggie said.

Miss Honiara City Theresa Rokaia added their hearts was broken when they see the victims avoiding themselves to meet them.

She said, she could not imagine how she feels if she has the same experience face by the victims.

The beauty pageants understands that domestic violence is increasing and as beauty pageants they will raise their voices by being advocators to stop violence against women and children.

They said, while domestic violence is a challenge issues for women and children every women must stand for their rights.

“We have to protect ourselves by empowering ourselves to become who we are against domestic violence,” Miss Honiara Hotel Lorah George said.

The contestants during their visit also donated $7000 as part of their charity work.

Also accompanying the beauty pageant was the reigning Miss Solomon Islands Tema Wickham.

Miss Wickham represented Solomon Islands in the Miss South Pacific held in Honiara in 2013.

As part of her charity work she also donated $5000 towards assisting the victims at the Christian Care centre.
