Servicing the Solomon Islands for 50 years

25 August 2014

ONE of the country’s longest serving businesses, Solomon Motors yesterday marked its 50 years of service in the country.

A gathering to mark the milestone event congregated at the old SMI area, Town Ground.

Operation manager of the company Tamisia Laxton Teiona said the company has been contributing to the country’s economy for many years and was proud to serve the country.

“We are happy and proud to be of persistent service to the people of Solomon Islands despite challenges we face as a firm and a country.

“We continued to provide fuel, Gas, Car Rental and mechanical workshop services which contribute a lot to the Solomon Islands government revenue in tax collections,” Mr Laxton said.

He said like many other existing businesses in the country, difficulties and problems faced by the country affected their operations too but they continued to operate under those difficult circumstances.

Chairperson of the company’s board and shareholder Ms Virginia Day said she was proud to see some locals who serve in the company for over 30 years.

“Some of my employees work in the company for more than 30 years now, so I want to thank them for their dedication and commitment with the company.”

She said the company is committed to continuing to provide the service to the people of Solomon Islands

Solomon Motor was established in the country in 1955, when it bought an old building used by American in 1942 as their storage house.

The building is now where the Solomon Motor refiling station is located, near the Point Cruz Yacht Club.
