KidsGame event ends

26 June 2014

THE two-week KidsGames that featured sports and biblical activities ended successfully on Monday in Honiara.

The event was organised to give school-aged children currently on holiday a space to interact and share in sports and learn biblical lessons.

Solomon Islands Scripture Union organised the event, the first of which started last year.

The programme involves Sunday school kids from all denominations, pathfinder groups, and schools scripture unions.

Other partner organisations such as the Honiara City Council, Ministry of Home affairs, Ministry of Women, Youth and Children Affairs, Church organisations and other NGOs also supported the programme.

Bryan Wale, a logistic team member, said the programme was a success and kids enjoyed their time during the event.

“Three types of sports were played,” Mr Wale said.

“They are futsal competition for boys, volleyball for girls, 50 metre relay for kids 9-11 years old and wall water bucket competition for kids 6-8 years,” he said.

Mr Wale said that before the games kicked-off each day there would be bible lessons taught to the kids by Sunday school teachers.

“This is to build their Christian values and characters.

“We need to build our kids with Christian values to make them become better citizens,” he added.

Mr Wale said that they are looking forward to hosting similar events next year.

Meanwhile, he said the official closing ceremony and presentation of prizes for the winning teams will be held tomorrow at the Multi Purpose Hall.
