Helena Goldie hospital gets its $2m share

The Government has handed over $2 million to Helena Goldie Hospital in Munda, Western province over the weekend.

Acting Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Maelanga delivered the cheque to Helena Goldie Hospital authorities at handover ceremony on Saturday.

The donation came from the Government through the support of the Republic of China, Taiwan, towards Solomon Islands health sector.

“Providing adequate health services is one of the NCRA Government’s priorities and that is to make sure all citizens in the Country have access to health services,” Mr Maelanga said.

He said although the country has faced many challenges in the health sector, government is still committed to provide better health service for its people.

Helena Goldie Hospital is one of the oldest health services provider’s in the country which started way back in the late 60s which saves many lives since its establishment by the Wesley United Church of Solomon Islands.

Mr Maelanga said the donation is to support the services that the hospital provides and further strengthen the work of the Hospital.

He encouraged the church, doctors, nurses and people to continue to look after and provide support to the hospital.

The Acting Prime Minister also thanked the Wesley United Church for the tremendous support given to the hospital and also thanked the doctors, nurses and staff of Helena Goldie Hospital for their commitment and dedicated service.

Meanwhile, supervising superintendent of Helena Goldie Hospital Dr Jane Long Bottom thank the Government for the support.

She said this assistance showed the commitment and care that Government have for the health sector and for its people.

Dr Jane said; “this donation is timely given the vast challenges the hospital faces”.

She assured the Acting Prime Minister that the money will be utilized properly and will be used to better improve health service.

Minister for health and medical services Hon Charles Sigoto, minister for provincial Government and MP for West New Georgia/Vonavona Hon Silas Tausinga and officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet travelled to Munda to witness the handing over ceremony.
