PM meets Archbishop of Canterbury

VISITING Archbishop of Canterbury The Most Reverend Justin Welby on Monday made a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.

During the brief meeting, the Mr Lilo welcomed Archbishop Welby and also expressed his deepest appreciation to have him in the country.

Mr Lilo said the Archbishop’s visit was timely as the country has been through a tough year.

“We are privilege to have you here and your visit is timely as we have been through quite a tough year this year with the April floods that hit the country in recent months,” the Prime Minister said.

He also informed the Archbishop of the country’s upcoming elections later this year.

The Most Reverend Welby in response said he was honoured to be here.

“I am grateful to be here in this beautiful country and to see the lovely people and islands,” the Archbishop expressed.

He also expressed his admiration to the Prime Minister for opening up the country’s office in Cuba.

“I am particularly impressed with Solomon Islands sending medical students to Cuba as Cuba has one of the world’s best and professional medical facilities,” he said.

The Most Reverend Welby was also keen in knowing the development, economy and trade aspects of the country in which the Prime Minister also briefly discussed with him.

Before the Archbishop left the Office of the Prime Minister, he also made a prayer in which he dedicated the country, its people and the Government to God; and also prayed for Solomon Islands as it prepares for the upcoming elections.

The Archbishop of Canterbury is the senior bishop and principal leader of the Church of England, the symbolic head of the worldwide Anglican Communion and the diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Canterbury.
