INTERNATIONAL Youth Day falls on 13th of August every year and was celebrated yesterday at the Multi-Purpose Hall, along with the opening of a Youth Hub.

Friday's event was marked with colorful activities from the youth groups around Honiara, who put on dances and music.

Attending the youth program were the acting Permanent Secretary (PS) for the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs (MWYCF) Hugo Hebala and Deputy City Mayor Charles Auwosuga.

Each guest took turn to deliver their speeches to mark the International Day of Youth by encouraging and reminding of the importance of young people in the country.

Mr Hebala said his ministry is happy and keen to see youth are doing something good to enhance their learning, which resulted in the opening of the Youth Hub.

The opening of the Youth Hub was described as one of the milestone achievement of the Honiara Youth Council (HYC), since their new center provides them the space and opportunity to participate in trainings that will enable them to live meaningful lives.

Deputy City Mayor Auwosuga said the New Zealand government has shown the green light to assist in improving the youth hub in the future, to cater for the growing population of young people in Honiara and the country as a whole.

The Youth Hub was officially opened with a demonstration by Mr Hebala and Mr Auwosuga cutting the ribbon amidst flashing cameras.

Mr Hebala said the government, through MWYCFA will continue to support youth through the collaborative work of the Honiara City Council (HCC).

The youth hub will be a center for learning for youth between the ages of 15 to 29.
