A MOBILE medical team from Taiwan is visiting the southern parts of Malaita this week.

The team will carry out medical services in Small Malaita, East and West Are’Are for the next nine days from 5th to 13th this month.

The statement said that in response to the dire medical needs in the rural areas, the Republic of China (Taiwan) Government requested Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital (KMUH) and Taiwan Health Center operating under the National Referral Hospital (NRH) to organize a medical mission to the country each year.

“Over the past years, the medical team had visited in all the provinces and provided medical assistance to the rural people.

“More than 80% of Solomon Islanders dwell in the rural villages with no easy access to medical services.

“Therefore the Taiwan mobile medical mission is meant to offer basic physician consultation and medical treatment to the rural people in Solomon Islands.”

This year’s medical mission is a collaboration between R.O.C. (Taiwan) Embassy, Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), National Referral Hospital (NRH), provincial and constituency officers of South Malaita area and KMUH.

Members of the mission this year include neurosurgeon specialist Dr. Wang Tse Lun, infectious disease specialist Dr. Kuo Shin-Huei, general practitioner Dr. Li Cheng Yu and Dr. Liu Kuan Fu, senior nurse Mr. Lin Yu Chau and Ms. Ho Yi-Hui.

The mission, accompanied by local constituency staff, will visit Afio AHC, Tawaro Clinic, Takataka Clinic, Tarapaina Clinic, Riverside Clinic, Rohinari Clinic and Rokera Clinic to provide free general outpatient service and specialist consultation.

Members of the Mobile Medical Mission hope that their visit will help solve some health problems for the people in the rural areas.
