A FIRST ever fundraising dinner for 'The Salvation Army' Red Shield Appeal has been organised for today at the Heritage Park Hotel.

This event is an introduction to The Salvation Army Fundraiser Concept - the DME equipment and supporting the financial development of the Salvation Army mission in the provinces in Solomon Islands.

With a dedicated fundraising committee Friday's organised fundraiser event will be the first of its kind here in the Solomon Islands.

Speaking to Paoa FM Robert Evans of The Salvation Army introduced the group.

"The Salvation Army is a Christian movement that has been around for over 155 years and now in 130 countries, originated in London, England, with a message centred around the idea of 'heart to God, hand to man' or Christian Faith in action,” Mr Evans.

"We are establishing our presence here in the Solomon Islands and what we are looking at at the moment is, what The Salvation Army need to look like in the Solomon Islands,” he added.

"So what we aren't wanting to do is to compete with other churches or other businesses, we're wanting to find where the gaps are and where we can best serve in the country. We've identified some areas where we want to administer and serve the people of Solomon Islands.

"We certainly are very active in working with some other community agencies, other NGOs to look at some of the gaps in services.”

Friday's event will raise money towards some of the new initiatives Salvation Army wants to put in place here in Solomon Islands.

The Fundraising Buffet Dinner and Auction today will be at the Heritage Park Hotel at 7pm, with live entertainment by the 'Set One Band'.
