THE Biometric Voter’s Registration deadline which was supposed to lapse on Thursday has been extended until 12 noon this Sunday.

Chief Electoral Officer, Mose Saitala made the announcement with the assistance of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers just before 4pm on Thursday.

The announcement was welcomed by a huge number of voters who are queuing for hours, at the Town ground registration centre.

 “Thank you,” they replied.

The extension was granted on requests by the CEO to the Commissioners of the Electoral Commission the Speaker of Parliament Ajilon Jasper Nasiu, Electoral Commissioner, Taeasi Sanga and Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary, Jeffrey Deve.

This is due to the big turnout of provincial voters.

Mr Saitala however explains that the extension is specifically for the Town ground registration centre.

He said other registration centres across the country have already completed but they will monitor other centre depending on the number of turnout.

The CEO added that with the extension now granted, the registration yesterday was closed at 6pm and will continue today from 8am-6pm.

He said at the close of the extension on Sunday the registration will start at 8am and close at 12 noon.

“This is the best way we can do to allow people to register,” he said.

Meanwhile Police Inspector, William Foufaka reminds those that are still to register to make use of the extension period and not to wait for the last minute.

He said today the Royal Solomon Islands Police will control the movement of people who will be there for registration.

Inspector Foufaka said only those who are seeking registration will be allowed.

He also reminds that there will be no vehicle parking inside the compound, no market and those who come to assist their relatives should stay outside the compound.
