A LOCAL group known as the “Kava family” stepped out yesterday and cleaned up around the National Referral Hospital (NRH), removing stacks of rubbish that were left there since last year.

This is not the first time the group, which is part of the Kokonut Café, had engaged in voluntary and humanitarian work.

Group leader, businessman and patron of Kava family, Robert Chow, said the clean up was in fact planned after they saw a faceboook post about the piles of rubbish that littered the hospital compound since last year.

“We just simply love our people and the country so that’s why the Kava family decided to take the step to work the talk,” Mr Chow said.

“This is just the beginning of many more cleanups to come as we go through 2019,” he added.

On previous occasions, the Kava family donated latex hand gloves for NRH nurses and doctors to use while waiting for government supplies last year.

They also donated washing detergents and other washing agents to NRH when the hospital was reported to have run out.

The Kava family consists of hardworking and law-abiding citizens who never missed the Kokonut Cafe Leaf Haus Kava Bar after their busy day to de-stress over a few shells of kava.

And it is during the kava sessions that they usually discuss how they can help the communities in and around Honiara.

This shared routine has brought together members of the Kava family and has paved the way for such humanitarian activities to occur.
