Commissioner of Police Matthew Varley appeals to all liquor license holders to observe the Order of the liquor ban.

THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) strongly appeals to all liquor license holders throughout the country to observe the liquor ban declared from 2 – 6 April 2019 to coincide with the National General Election next week.

The Liquor Ban Order has been issued by the Caretaker Minister of Home Affairs, Ishmael Avui under section 82(1) of the Liquor Act (Cap. 144).

The Order has already been gazetted and directs that all licensed premises and all bars in Honiara City and in the Provinces be closed, and no liquor to be sold on such premises, on and from 2 April 2019 to 6 April 2019.

It further directs that all licensed premises and bars in Honiara City be closed and no liquor sold on such premises on the day before the day of election and on the day of the election of the Prime Minister.

“The RSIPF acknowledges the liquor ban declared by the Minister of Home Affairs and will do everything within its capability to ensure all liquor license holders adhere to the Order,” says Commissioner of Police, Matthew Varley.

Commissioner Varley adds: “I want to appeal to all liquor license holders to observe this Order as the police will not tolerate any one who does not follow it.”

“The anti-social behavior caused by the irresponsible consumption of alcohol within our communities has caused so much trouble to the lives of the people in this country.

“The Liquor Ban declared will help towards ensuring a safe and secure NGE next week,” Commissioner Varley emphasizes.
