Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner Matthew Varley  has met with four members of the visiting United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

The meeting was held at Rove Police headquarters in Honiara.

Commissioner Varley, his Chief of Staff (CoS), Chief Superintendent Russell Tagini and Deputy Commissioner Juanita Matanga met with four members of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs members.

The members of the Committee included Ms Jennifer Hendrixson-White, Ms Theresa Lou, Mr Bryan Burack and Mr Sean Callahan. 

The Committee has jurisdiction over Bills and investigations related to the foreign affairs of the United States

“The meeting today (yesterday) was to get the RSIPF’s views about US policy toward the Pacific Island region, including the priorities of countries and organizations in the Pacific region with respect to American engagements in the region,” said Commissioner Varley.

He added: “This is the first time for me to meet with the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs since becoming Commissioner of RSIPF in 2017. This shows the US is interested to get our views on its foreign policy.”

The RSIPF is expected to meet with high level visitors who are in Honiara for the US -G77 Anniversary and be part of the commemoration of US Marines involved in the battle of Guadalcanal in 1942 and Coast watchers and Solomon Islands Scouts Memorial Service this week.
