MORE than 50 men, women and children took to Honiara’s streets Monday night wearing Red dresses in the annual Hash House Harriers “red dress” run in support of women’s refuge SeifPleis.

$4,000 was raised through the generous support of Honiara business and individuals including Sullivans, Justina’s Physiotherapy spa and beauty, Honiara Hardware, Lime Lounge,Breakwater cafe, Bulkshop and other individuals who donated prizes for the event.

Honiara Hash House Harriers spokesman Andrew Fraser said “this was a great turnout for a great cause.  We thank all our sponsors for their generous support of this event”.

Hash House Harriers is the largest international walking and running organisation in the world with almost 2000 chapters worldwide, and the Red Dress Run is an annual event to mark when a young woman, having just stepped off a plane to meet her friend, ran in her red dress and high heels in San Deigo in 1987.

The run has been celebrated worldwide annually ever since to raise funds for various charities.

The “Red Dress” lady, Donna Rheinhart passed away in 2013, however her legacy lives on.

Honiara Hash House Harriers is a friendly walking and running group that meets at 5pm every Monday evening in a different part of Honiara and is a wonderful mix of local Solomon Islanders and expatriates.

Everyone is welcome to join the walk or run, regardless of their level of fitness. You can find us on Facebook under Honiara Hash House Harriers, just like a new restaurant, please come along at least once to see if it’s something you’d like to add to your experience here in the Solomon’s.
