Lunga community high school (CHS) in East Honiara yesterday unveiled its newly completed ablution block.

The project commenced last year after the old ablution block was removed.

According to the school principal Joy Cornelius, the need to upgrade the facility is due to the increasing enrollment of students at the school.

The new block provides a new clean facility for both female and male students to use.

Ms Cornelius said the funding support for the project was made possible through the assistance from Bank South Pacific (BSP) under its corporate responsibility support program.

“We are lucky enough to get the help from BSP Banking which is a real blessing to our school.

“Without their help of $20,000 the project would not be completed today,” she said.

She also acknowledged the hard working school board, parents, guardians, education authority, the government and donor agencies for their support towards the school and the project.

Ms Cornelius acknowledged the continuous support from the Australian Government through the Ministry of Education.

“I wish to acknowledge the Australian Government through grants that help to support the children’s learning.  The school would also like to sincerely express our gratitude,” she said.

The school operates under the Guadalcanal Education Authority and for that the school boss also acknowledged the province for recognizing Lunga CHS.

She added the school looks forward for more support and help from everyone in the future.

The school staff and students were excited following the opening of the new ablution block.

The students have been urged to look after the facility properly to ensure it remains clean and tidy at all times.

A BSP rep speaking at the occasion expressed its gratitude for the completion of the project.

The bank official said the support is part of its ongoing support to the community.

He also reminded the students to use the facility for its intended purpose.

Lunga CHS is one of the oldest schools operating in Honiara for many years.

It operates as a primary and eventually expand to cater for the secondary stream.
