Opening the first Provincial Police Commanders and Directors Conference for 2020 at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara on Monday, Minister of Police National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Anthony Veke says, “Policing capabilities and capacities must be strengthened at all times in partnership and close collaboration with other key Solomon Islands Government (SIG) policy priorities.”
“Your organisation is part of the overall SIG family and what makes it more special is that you operate with much discipline and professionalism in your conduct,” Minister Veke told the PPCs and Directors.
The five-day Conference with the theme, ‘Strengthening Policing Through Partnership in Collaboration with SIG Key Policy Priorities’ is attended by all PPCs and Directors to discuss their Work Action Plans in the implementation of the RSIPF Annual Business Plan 2020.
Hon. Veke told the Conference: “I am aware that the 2017 - 2020 RSIPF Strategic Direction will end in December 2020 and I wish to highly commend the RSIPF for numerous achievements over the past four years, as reflected in your Annual Reports submitted yearly to my office for Cabinet updates.”
“The Strategic Direction and the Annual Business Plan are fundamental to effectively and efficiently deliver the goals and mandates of RSIPF as reflected in the DCGA Policy Statement.”
“Our Ministry is very supportive of all the activities highlighted in these important documents and will continue to work very closely with RSIPF to achieve its mandate.”
Minister Veke added: “This is a very important conference, as we all know that, when the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) left in mid- 2017, you have taken on the leadership of the RSIPF and have proven your capability to deliver your mandated services professionally.”
During his statement at the opening of the Conference Minister Veke also thanked advisors from Australian under the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) and New Zealand under the Solomon Islands Police Support Program (SIPSP) for their continuing support for the RSIPF.
During the discussions of their Work Plans for 2020, PPCs and Directors will be briefed on the RSIPF 2020 Budget, the revised Crime Prevention Strategy 2019 – 2020, the RSIPF Gender Strategy and other issues.
