According to the Malaita Provincial Human Resource Manager Richard Misi, the 14 provincial workers put up their hands when the province sent a request for those within retirement age who wish to retire from work as per the provincial policy.
Mr. Misi confirmed to this paper that the provincial government has paid a total of $112, 249.62 to the retired provincial workers.
He said the 14 retired workers are the first of the two groups that are scheduled for retirement this year under the retirement exercise.
The retired workers received their retirement packages during a ceremony attended by the Provincial Premier Daniel Suidani, his deputy Randal Sifoni, Provincial Secretary (PS) Fredrick Fa'abasua, the HR Mr.Misi, and other provincial workers.
The farewell reception was held at the Provincial Assembly Chambers at lunch hour yesterday.
Speaking on behalf of the retired workers, David Lamani thanked the MARA government under the leadership of Premier Suidani, Deputy Randal Sifoni and PS Fredrick Fa'abasua for recognizing their contributions to the province.
Mr. Lamani said the provincial government recognized their request for retirement because there is an order in the provincial administration.
The retired workers said as Malaitans serving the province over the years they left the province satisfied because they see some good changes taking place in the provincial administration within the last eight months under the MARA leadership.
Also, present yesterday was the son of a deceased retired provincial worker who was there to collect his late father's retirement package.
