Fiji’s first iron sand ore resources from the Ba Delta is expected to be exported out of the country soon.

The Mineral Resources Department has also confirmed that work on Amex Resources Limited’s multi million dollar port in Lautoka will also start next month.

Three years ago the company was awarded a special mining lease to extract iron sand from the mouth of the Ba river.

As part of that major project, Amex Resources Ltd have also committed to build a major bulk commodity shipping port in Lautoka next month.

Director of Mineral Resources Malakai Finau has confirmed the logistics base will act as a stockpiling area for iron sand for final treatment and export.

Plans are also in the pipeline for a feasibility study to be carried out at the Sigatoka river.

Drilling works will be carried out to test for iron sands.

The Mineral Resources Department says it already know what exactly they have to do in order to attract investors such as this.

The iron sands project covers more than 132 square kilometers of the Ba River mouth.
