Vodafone’s $24m investment

25 February 2014

VODAFONE Fiji will embark on a $24million investment program around the country soon.

This was revealed by Agriculture Minister Lieutenant Colonel Inia Seruiratu during a recent tour of the North.

Lt-Col Seruiratu said the investment would include the setting up of transmitting stations nationwide with 18 stations in the North.

"The results of the plan may not be immediate but it is beginning to take form with the extension of power grids, road refurbishment and the improvement of water supplies to our local areas in the region.

"The real plan behind the strategic plan is to create an environment for economic growth which is the vehicle and the enabler of development.

"The Look North Policy has tax incentives but we need infrastructure and utilities such as communication."

Lt-Col Seruiratu said the plans by Vodafone Fiji would open up links for the people of the North with the outside world.

He said this would mean accessibility to business markets.

"There are opportunities and potential here in Vanua Levu, so hopefully once the plan has been implemented, it will entice investors to come here and hopefully more industries as well to create more employment opportunities for our people."
