The National Community Policing Unit of the RSIPF is at the Guadalcanal Weaving Festival which opened today at the Lela Beach West of Honiara conducting an outreach program.

Members of the community policing team will give talks on the Family Protection Act, the Crime Prevention Strategy and distribute information on the dangers of kwaso, marijuana, alcohol abuse and family violence in Solomon Islands.

Parents, youth and children are able to go along and listen to talks on the various issues and ask questions on these specific issues as well as any other policing issues that is of concern to them during the one-week Festival.

“We encourage everyone including parents and young people as well as children to come visit our stall at the Festival and ask any question about the work of your police, the RSIPF,” says Sergeant Mary Maneforu of National Community Policing team.

Members of the RSIPF in Guadalcanal Province mounted a parade to mark the opening of the anniversary of the Guadalcanal Province Second Appointed Day celebrations. Guadalcanal Provincial Premier, Hon. Anthony Veke inspected the parade. The Festival is part of the Second Appointed Day anniversary celebrations.

Your police, the RSIPF, appeals to the general public to celebrate responsibly with friends and families to avoid any disturbances during the week long program at the Weaving Festival. Let us work together so everyone including families can enjoy the celebrations to mark the anniversary of the Guadalcanal Province Second Appointed Day.
