Naka is back

03 August 2017

National striker, James Naka has been recalled for training in preparation for the finals of the third stage of the World Cup Qualifiers against New Zealand.

This was confirmed by the Head Coach, Spaniard Felipe Vega Arongo on Wednesday.

Felipe met with Naka yesterday and has agreed that Naka will be back for training starting on Monday next week.

Naka was omitted last month due to disciplinary issues.

Since his omission Naka switched to his old club, KOSSA FC which he trained on daily basis until his call to return for the squad’s training.

Speaking to Star Sports yesterday Naka is confident he will perform to the standard expected of him and vowed to give his best against New Zealand.

“I will return to training starting on Monday next week.

“I’m happy that the coach has confidence in me and recalled me back for training.

“I learn from my mistakes and I’m prepared to give in hundred percent performance for the national team,” he said.

He clarified that he will feature in the return home game against New Zealand

Coach Felipe said Naka’s inclusion will be a boost for the team as well as for the young provincial strikers who were included in the squad.

Naka is the third call up made by the coach this week.

Two other inclusions are Kennedy Watemae of Central Shield’s and Joses Nawo the former national flanker.

Felipe is filling the gap for Joachim Waroi who was recently omitted also due to disciplinary issues.

Waroi was omitted after failing to turn up for training and the recent friendly match with Vanuatu without any proper explanation whatsoever.

Solomon Islands will take on New Zealand for the finals at the end of the month.
