Inter-company futsal kicks off today

THE much-anticipated Honiara Inter Company futsal competition is set to kick off this afternoon at the Multi-purpose Hall.

Chairperson of the organizing committee, George Capps and Secretary John Dick Tome confirmed this to Star Sports last night.

Tome said the competition is purposely organised to give company employees time out from their work stations to have fun and interact with other employees.

“Your health is your wealth, thus we would like to give this opportunity to our hard working people who did not have time to play sports,” Tome said.

“However, those who are eligible to participate in this league must be 30 years old and above,” he added.

Four games are set to kick of the league this afternoon.

First up will be HCC Iron up against Border Guards at 1pm followed by Futstars and Ports Authority at 1:30 pm, then St John up against Dalgro Company while last match will feature Solar Power and Customs at 2:30 pm.

However, teams who have already registered for the competition are asked to report to the organizers this afternoon so that they can be included in this afternoon’s encounters.

“We have 20 teams registered for this competition,

“The league will be played in a round robin format,

“We are expecting to complete the league by the end of November’’ Capps said.

He stressed they decided to play in round robin format so that the each teams can enjoy the competition at the same time it will help them to do regular excises which will help their physical condition.

The league is anticipated to run on Fridays and Saturdays.

After all the teams played against each other, only top 8 teams will qualify for the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, winner of the competition will walk away with a trophy and $10,000 cash, second prize is $6000, third prize is $4000 while fourth prize is $2000.

Consolation prizes will also be given out at the conclusion of the league.

All futsal fans and supporters are welcome to the Multi-purpose Hall this afternoon to witness the first ever Inter-company futsal competition.
