Underdogs St Nicholas won the U16 futsal title for the first time after defeating favourites Koloale School 4-2.
Former champions White River finished third after they defeated St John in the third and fourth playoff.
St Nicholas received the gold medals and the winning trophy, while Koloale received silver medals with the second prize trophy and White River received bronze medals and the third prize trophy.
All top three teams also received school bags and other accessories as part of their awards.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Norman Palmer School for the Best Team, Koloale for the Best Uniform, Golden Glove award to Edmond Fox and Golden Boot award to John Masike
Speaking during the presentation of awards, president of the Solomon Islands Sports Coalition (SISC) Pastor Seru said whilst everybody isenjoying the school futsal competition, there are people who made it all possible to host a successful event.
“There are some people and organizations that gave us the opportunity to witness the end of a successful tournament,” Seru said
“Firstly I would like to thank major sponsors, Bulk Shop Company for their continuous support,” he added.
“Also I would like to thank the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) for their support as well.
“It is through such commitment and support that help the country maintain the level of futsal in the country,” he said.
Pastor Seru stressed it is important that Solomon Islands maintain their statues as the Oceania champions.
He added organizing such competitions for the young age is the pathway to maintaining the status as Oceania’s powerhouse in futsal.
Meanwhile, the U14 category competition is currently underway and will be followed by the U12 and U10.
