05 August 2015

AS the term three (3) of schooling commences few weeks ago, the Solomon Islands AFL is kicking off its school outreach programmes ahead of the week-long competition at the end of the school term.

Reports received from the sporting body confirmed that secondary schools in the greater Honiara region, including King George, Tenaru, St Nicholas, and Mbua vale, among others, will have SIAFL staff conducting training and coaching programs.

This is to improve AFL skills and teach students the importance of health and wellbeing and its effects on sports performance, in preparation for the scheduled competition.

Additionally, years 3 to 6 students at Shama Community School have been participating in morning clinics, gaining experience and opportunities to be physically active and learn new skills.

SIAFL staff, led by Job Vulita, has spent time teaching these participants the basics of AFL in the hope of spreading the game from the grassroots of the Solomon Islands.

Primary students across Honiara also have the opportunity to learn or continue their passion of AFL, with SIAFL.
