During a presentation to the PNG Sports Foundation and other stakeholders at Ela Beach Hotel early this year, women’s coach Lisa Cole said her team needed money to prepare well for their matches.
When PNG Sports Foundation chairman Graham Osborne asked whether the team had any money to prepare for the exercise, Cole replied in the affirmative but stressed that they needed more funds to play some friendly matches locally and internationally.
However, said she was content with the K2m from the National Government. The National was informed that K1.5m was drawn for lodging, meals and school fees for players at the National Sports Institute and the Goroka Grammar School.
The women’s team is likely use the remaining K500,000 to host friendly games against Japan and the US later this month.
Cole said the preparation for hosting both nations for the friendlies was going on well. “The team is working very hard, Cole said.
“The girls have become more focused on how they are going to defend and attacks, especially on how to set up free kicks, corners, and so on,” she said.
Cole said there should be a lot more game play than individual player development as they prepare to face US and Japan.
