OFC encourages overseas exposure

13 February 2014

Exposure to soccer competitions around the region will boost the development of local players.

Oceania Football Confederation Head of Television, Tukaha Mua says that players can learn a great deal from playing in competitions in foreign countries.
“What we would like to encourage is to have more of our players move and play in the other leagues around the region. It lifts their exposure to different skills, lifts their understanding and hopefully over time, we will be able to see teams from the islands represent the Oceania at the FIFA Club World Cup and hopefully have a good run at world cup qualification.”
Wellington Phoenix striker Roy Krishna is the only Fijian player to have featured in a FIFA Club World Cup when he played for Auckland City in last year’s tournament in Morocco.
Meanwhile, the OFC has released the draws for the 2014 OFC Champions League.
Nadi has been grouped in Pool B alongside defending champions Auckland City, AS Dragon, AS Pirae of Tahiti and the yet-to-be determined champion club from the Solomon Islands.
Ba is grouped in Pool C together with Tafea of Vanuatu, AS Magenta of New Caledonia and Hekari United of Papua New Guinea.
The group stages will be hosted in Ba, Lautoka and Nadi from the 7th to the 15th of April.
