FIBA Oceania officer receives award

18 May 2014

Judy Smith, one of the long serving FIBA Oceania staff has been recognised with the Patricia Ramsay Award for service to the regional basketball federation.

Having joined FIBA Oceania in 1997, Judy went on to working with the organisation until its move to Canberra in late 2013.

During her tenure, Judy was always on hand to provide assistance to all in the Oceania family, working many hours outside her ‘part-time’ employment.

Most notably, Judy was responsible for the issuing of FIBA 'A' Licences for professional players in Australia and New Zealand, the conduct of FIBA Oceania events and the maintenance of the FIBA accounts.

Judy pioneered the introduction of the Sporting Pulse FIBA organizer software throughout the federation; software that is now used regularly throughout the world, and has developed training manuals that are still in use today to help teach new users of FIBA Organizer.

Judy was also responsible for the introduction of the Pacific All Stars program, where the best athletes from the Pacific Youth Tournament (which Judy also organised!) were invited to train and play in an Australian Country Championships in Albury.

Judy Smith is a much loved member of the Oceania family, and it is only fitting to announce her as the 2014 Patricia Ramsay award winner.
