APIA, (RNZI) - The final venues are close to being signed off ahead of next month's Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa.

Apia Park was completed in time for July's rugby test between Manu Samoa and the All Blacks, while the tennis and swimming facilities are also ready to go.

The Games Planning and Delivery Advisor, Moira Lassen, says there was a delay in the flooring and glass doors coming in from North America and Scandanavia for the new squash courts, but they're close to completion.

"The pool is ready - it has water in it - and Team Samoa has been using the outdoor warm-up pool for about a month for training so that's great - it's a fantastic facility. All the other gyms are basically overlay [work that is remaining] - we have our field has some renovations that need to be done and that's not complete or just being completed. The new-build is squash and that is getting signed off on the 19th of August, which is a bit close to the Games but we're excited it's happening and the World Squash Federation are really excited about the build".

Moira Lassen says there will be a chance for the squash venue to be tested prior to the start of the Games.

Up to 1000 athletes from 68 countries will visit Samoa in September to contest nine sports.
