THE Proposed Trade link between Temotu Province through the Solomon Islands government with Vanuatu government has been delayed.

A statement from the Temotu Province government said the delay was due to recent changes in leadership with the NCRA government late last year.

The trade link was initiated by the Minister for Culture and Tourism, Samuel Manetoali in consultation with the Premier of Temotu Fr. Brown Beu.

The statement said reciprocal visit by the Vanuatu government delegation should have taken place towards the end of last year but this did not eventuate.

“The reciprocal visit by the Vanuatu delegation depends very much on fast tracking a cabinet paper that is yet to go before cabinet for deliberation which hopefully will be facilitated by the responsible Ministries soon.

“This is becoming a concern to Temotu Provincial government and the Hon. Premier Fr. Brown Beu sincerely urged responsible Ministries to quickly progress the matter to finality so that final signing of the MOU between these two countries may be effected as soon as possible.

“The final MOU will only cover areas that have not been addressed by the MSG agreement, mainly on services like shipping, aviation related services plus others and investment.”

The statement said Temotu Provincial government has established a committee to plan and coordinate the visit by the delegation from Vanuatu government since arriving back from Vanuatu.

The committee has also held awareness talks with the surrounding communities on the proposed trade link.
