Isabel premier James Habu says his government fully supports the nickel exploration activities Sumitomo Mining is doing in the province.

Sumitomo Mining is a Japanese firm.

Habu said so far, Sumitomo has helped the province build a form seven classroom at Sir Dudley Tuti College.

“We believe the company has a lot to offer the province and nation when it becomes fully operational,” Habu said.

He added his government welcomes investments to the province as long as they are in the interest of his people and province.

Meanwhile, the prime minister’s special secretary Dr Philip Tagini said their previous visit to the Sumitomo operations in the Philippines found the company operates according to strict environmental guidelines.

He said they also learned communities within the mining area greatly benefited from the operations.

He added the government believes Sumitomo will do the same here.
