Liquor operators urged to renew licences now

LIQUOR outlets in town have been urged to renew their business licences.

Secretary of the Honiara city liquor licensing board Mathew Takiba said outlet owners must renew their licence soon.

“There are a few operators who have been operating illegally,” Mr Takiba said.

“Their licences have expired but they still continue operations,” he added.

Mr Takiba said it is funny to note certain business operators come up with excuses to avoid actions taken against them.

He said if those businesses fail to comply with council ordinances, they will have their licences terminated.

Mr Takiba said more than 80 liquor outlets are operating in Honiara.

This includes restaurants, night clubs, retail and wholesale, pocket and residential.

It is understood two new applications have recently been approved by the board while some have already ceased business.

Meanwhile, Mr Takiba warned that liquor operators must renew their licences when they’re due to avoid termination of licences.
