One of the growing motel operators in Gizo, Rekona motel, has expanded its services following the opening of its new wing mid last year in the heart of the Western Provincial capital.
The new look accommodation block has 10 rooms and is amongst the popular motels for visitors both local and overseas over the past months.
A visit by the Solomon Star to the motel revealed that since its opening, guests have been pouring in to be accommodated there for few days or even a week at the motel.
The biggest group to have been accommodated there included those who attended the recent Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) that was held in November.
Most of the Provincial Members who travelled to Gizo for the various meetings have also been accommodated at the motel.
The new wing has modern facilities and all self-contained with bathroom, shower, toilet, TV, hot water system, coffee making facilities and telephone.
Rekona's on a slope provides a lovely view overlooking Gizo and the other nearby islands.
Its location has been an ideal place for families and young couples.
The expansion of Rekona continues to bring competition and better services to Gizo which is a small township buzzing with tourist related activities.
Prior ot the opening of the motel, owner and managing director Ivan Maiko said the new wing is to provide affordable services to the locals and visitors who have problems with accommodation while passing through Gizo.
He said he wanted to provide a cheap place people can afford.
And he stands by his words.
Many customers have made positive comments about the new facilities since its opening.
The opening of the new wings also provided additional jobs for locals living in Gizo.
Mr Maiko said he would continue to expand his business in the coming years.
