LOW Price Enterprises says competition is good for the country in order to benefit people.

A spokesman, in an interview with Solomon Star this week, said this as the company, which operates a wholesale and retail business for general cargoes, opened in its first provincial outlet in Auki, Malaita province last week.

The opening came under fire from local indigenous business association at the provincial capital prompting the Malaita provincial government to issue a "stop" notice to the company.

This is because the public in Auki are now flocking their shop to purchase their general store goods.

The spokesman said since the store opened last Thursday, items such as rice, noodle, flour and other general items have all ran out.

"This is because of the better price we offer them," he said.

The spokesman said competition like this is good for the local people because it gives them the choice to choose from which chop to buy from.

This week more goods are being shipped across to Auki due to demand for their goods.

The spokesman cited the example of the telecommunication sector in which Our Telekom now tries to improve its services after the market was opened up.

Low Price Enterprises is known for its cheap prices on all general merchandise goods in Honiara.

It is one of the shops that is always packed.

In Honiara, the company operates four wholesale and retailing outlets.
